Registration for The Way to St James 2019 Cygnet pilgrimage, for children 10-15 years old. The minimum age for pilgrims is 10 years.

Pilgrims 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult approved by a parent or guardian. 

Pilgrim's registration fee is great value and includes the following:

  • A fantastic evening meal provided at St Mary of the Cross Church in Ranelagh (BBQ) including locally grown Huon salmon

  • Breakfast at Ranelagh

  • A wonderful traditional country afternoon tea on arrival in Cygnet.

Pilgrimage Details

The pilgrimage commences on Friday 11th January 2019 at 10.30am from the Mountain River Community Hall and finishes on Saturday 12th January 2019 at approx. 5pm at St James Church, Cygnet in the midst of the wonderful Cygnet Folk Festival.

The route covers rural roads in southern Tasmania and is best described as needing low to medium level fitness levels. Pilgrims are advised to attain reasonable bushwalking levels of fitness. Pilgrims must be a minimum age of 10.

Day one is from Mountain River to Ranelagh and is 14km, approximately.

Day two will take us from Ranelagh Church, with a bus trip to Cradoc to avoid narrow sections of the Channel Highway and then along the Cradoc Coast Road next to the Huon River and over the Silver Hill Road and Missing Link Road to Cygnet and is 15km, approximately.

ACCOMMODATION

There are plenty of options for accommodation all included in the registration fee. Pilgrims are welcome to pitch a tent in the level grounds surrounding St Mary of the Cross Church in Ranelagh. Free indoor accommodation is available at St. James Anglican Church Hall or Mission 21 or at the Ranelagh Soldiers Memorial Hall which are all close to or nearby St Mary’s. Also, pilgrims are very welcome to bring a bedroll and sleep on the floor of the Church.

Lastly there are excellent B&B options in the Huon Valley. Pilgrims would need to make their own private arrangements should they choose this last option and such option is not be included in the fee.

MEALS

Pilgrim's registration fee is great value and includes the following:

  • A fantastic evening meal provided at St Mary of the Cross Church in Ranelagh (BBQ) including locally grown Huon salmon
  • Breakfast at Ranelagh
  • A wonderful traditional country afternoon tea on arrival in Cygnet.

Morning coffee and cake at the Mountain River Memorial Hall will be available at a small cost.
Optional delicious (vegetarian) lunch packs on each of the two days will also be available ($12 per day). Wine, beer and other non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the evening meal at Ranelagh  at a reasonable cost.

Any special dietary requirements are the responsibility of pilgrims. 

TRANSPORT

Busses are provided for transport from Hobart to Mountain River on Friday 11th January, and for the return journey from Cygnet to Hobart on Saturday 13th January.

CONDITIONS

• Pilgrims must be physically fit enough to undertake the walk
• Minimum age of walker is 10 years
• No drugs or alcohol can be taken on the pilgrimage
• Any health issues, allergies or special dietary requirements are the responsibility of individuals to manage
• Pilgrims are reminded that the ethos of the pilgrimage promotes quiet reflection and we encourage peaceful and harmonious interactions with fellow pilgrims and local residents
